Roboloop (“Roboloop,” “we,” “us”) builds data infrastructure for physical AI and robotics, including the EgoCapture mobile app (Android and iOS) that people use to record egocentric video for our data catalog. This page explains what we collect, how it's used, and the choices you have — both for this website and for the EgoCapture app.

Mobile app

EgoCapture (Android & iOS)

EgoCapture records first-person (egocentric) video and motion-sensor data for robotics research, using your phone's camera and motion sensors. Here's exactly what that involves:

What the app records

  • Video from your phone's rear camera (recording is triggered automatically by on-device hand-detection, or started manually).
  • Motion sensor data (accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer where available) for the duration of a recording.
  • Camera calibration values (focal length and optical center) your device's manufacturer already provides — not a photo or video, just numbers describing the lens.

All on-device processing used to decide when to record (hand detection) runs locally on your phone. It does not see or store anything beyond deciding to start/stop a recording.

What stays on your device

Every recording is saved locally on your phone first. Nothing is uploaded automatically. You choose, per recording, whether to upload it — and can delete any recording from your device at any time without it ever leaving your phone.

What we receive if you upload

If you choose to upload a recording, we receive the video file, the motion sensor data, the camera calibration values (if available), and basic metadata (recording length, timestamp, device model). This is sent directly to Roboloop's own servers over an encrypted connection — we do not share it with third-party advertisers or data brokers. Uploaded recordings are used to build and improve robotics training datasets, and may be reviewed, annotated, or included in datasets we deliver to robotics research partners.

An important limitation, stated plainly

EgoCapture does not currently blur or otherwise remove faces, text, or other identifying details of bystanders who may appear in a recording. Because you control what you record and whether to upload it, please be mindful of where and who you record, and avoid uploading footage that includes other people without their awareness. We are working on automatic de-identification and will update this policy when it ships.

Your choices

  • Camera and sensor access can be revoked at any time in your device's app settings.
  • Recordings not yet uploaded can be deleted from within the app; they never reach our servers.
  • To request deletion of a recording you already uploaded, email us (below) with the approximate upload date and device model, and we'll locate and remove it.
